Description
13.5′ Old Town Whitecap Sailboat (1957) $1,500
Sadly two other boat projects have come before this beautiful little sail boat. This is a lapstrake “whitecap” model built by the Old Town Canoe company in 1957. Delivered in 1958 to a 4h camp in NJ. This is the same model as “Tinkerbelle” which Robert Manry used to sail across the Atlantic in 1965 (although he made significant modifications). I have not even had time to put this boat in the water yet after owning her for nearly two years. She was partially restored by the previous owners in CT. The boat spent many years off of Cedar Island in Clinton CT. There is a small patch repair on the upper port transom well above the waterline. There still is a sail set with logos from that camp. If you are looking for a classic small sailboat with history, she is the one. If I can’t find an interested buyer who appreciates this boat, I will hold on to her.
The boat was usable in 2012 when she was taken out in Clinton Harbor by the previous owner. Since then she has been garaged and stored out of the elements. It looks like you could try her out tomorrow and repaint the bottom and use her. Some of the deck lamination has damage but nothing major. The fasteners and hull seem solid. All of the rigging is included. So she is a perfect restoration use-while-you-restore candidate. The boat has at least three sets of sails (the most modern very usable, the older canvas sets with a few mouse holes, a very functional Caulkins trailer and a Tanaka 3hp engine (which needs a carburetor bowl).
Lots of documentation and research are included with this boat. Get a few sails in and restore over the winter. The boat is currently in Massachusetts. Email of text any questions five08three64four755.
