15' Allen Mellonseed Skiff (2015)

This is a 15 foot version of the Mellonseed skiff developed on Barnegat Bay around 1880. She is hull number 16 of the Cortez Mellonseed Class, designed by Buffalo Maritime Center’s Roger Allen, and built at the Cape Fear Community College wooden boat school in 2015. Her bright red lapstrake hull and 8 coats of varnish separate her from the crowd.
Her lightly used sail was built by Nat Wilson of East Boothbay, Maine. She has a hollow mast and gaff with bronze blocks and fittings made by Jim Reineck. Her oak mast hoops from Pert Lowell complete the combination of beauty and practicality.
