Description
39′ Looe Lugger – Designed and built by James Angear in Looe, Cornwall in 1907 – GUIDING STAR
Guiding Star was built as a fishing lugger in Looe, Cornwall, in 1907 for the Soady family and for thirty years she fished for pilchards, mackerel and herring off the south coast of England. She was one of the last Looe boats built without an engine so she has a fine sailing hull. She was sold out of fishing in the 1930s and converted to a leisure yacht at the famous Uphams yard in Brixham, Devon, with a teak coachroof and Colombian pine mainmast. Rebuilt and refitted in the 1990s, she has five berths in three cabins, a spacious galley and modern safety equipment. The engine, new in 2015, sits in a large easily-accessible compartment. Since 2016, she has been completely re-rigged and much other maintenance carried out to keep her in first class condition. 2021 survey available.
