Description
This one-of-a kind Great Harbor 26 was designed by legendary designed Bill Cook who included a hydraulic retractable find keel and blade rudder. The boat is a modern 7/8 sloop design day sailor and coastal cruiser that was built in 2003 named “Joy”. She is one of a small fleet of Great Harbor 26 ft. day sailors built in Southwest Harbor Main by renowned boat builder Hank Hinckley. Joy is the only one of the Great Harbor fleet (the others are fiberglass) that was cold molded and custom built with three diagonal layers of 1/8 western red cedar, Honduran mahogany and white oak. The hull is covered with 8oz. boat cloth applied with clear epoxy resin then multiple coats of clear Awlgrip urethane. She was re-powered with a new Nani diesel and sail drive in 2021. Engine and drive have less than 100 hours, the backbone is oak and stem laminated mahogany. Joy is equipped with Dutchman system, self tending jib, new electronics including chart plotter, radar, and debt finder. Joy is not your average day sailor as she sleeps four, has a small galley and head with holding and water tanks enabling her to comfortably coastal cruise. Below deck white bulkheads are beautifully accented by varnished mahogany trim, laminated overhead beams are also capped in mahogany, and cabin sole is teak with holly inlay. Boat is stored in temperature controlled shed with teak decking and all bright work is in excellent, show condition. Joy’s carbon fiber main and custom trailer with protective skirts make her light and easily transportable. This remarkable, one-of-a kind beauty turns heads wherever she goes.
