Designed by legendary yacht designer Bruce King, and built by master shipwright Jim McClelland. Taurus is a high quality custom yacht. Her classic appearance is striking yet ageless, one of a series of Bruce King designs that hearken back to the Herreshoff classic Ticonderoga.

The King designs utilize modern cold molded epoxy construction. Taurus is constructed of five layers of douglas fir and mahogany veneers set in epoxy, providing an incredibly stiff and strong hull. The thick hull also provides a degree of insulation, keeping warm on cooler days and reducing condensation issues typical of glass boats.

The cutter rig has a large, well-balanced, sail plan that is easy to handle and a joy to sail. Both headsails are on furlers, the staysail is self tacking and the large high cut yankee tacks easily through the large offset between headstays. The large sail plan combined with the high righting moment make this boat a great performer in any weather. Taurus has modern aluminum spars, large self tailing winches, and is equipped with a large asymmetrical spinnaker, rigged from the bowsprit.

The Buhk 20hp inboard diesel was rebuilt in 2018, and is equipped with a fixed two blade propeller.

The interior woodwork is in beautiful, near new condition. All cabinetry is solid teak, with louvered cabinet doors in the galley and dovetailed drawers throughout. The large open salon features a solid teak folding trestle table, ample lighting from side ports and a teak butterfly hatch. For cooler weather, Taurus is equipped with a Luke soapstone fireplace. The separate aft cabin has a large double berth, chart table and settee, drawers and a hanging locker.

The exterior woodwork has weathered from being stored for the last three years. As this is all solid mahogany and teak, it can be easily refreshed to a show condition if desired. The topsides are painted white, and are due to be refinished. This is reflected in the asking price, in ‘bristol’ condition Taurus is worth considerably more. Taurus is in ready to be sailed condition, all systems are in good condition and mechanically sound. The boat has been in a northern climate and on fresh water its entire life.

Taurus is currently in Kenora, Ontario, where she was originally built. Reluctantly for sale by her second owner, she needs somebody who understands and appreciates the quality of her design and build, and can devote the time to use and maintain her.
