Volvo TAMD40B, 165 hp, turbo diesel, fresh water cooled, with Volvo Penta Model KGMS3C #MS30 transmission; 18×18 four bladed bronze prop (and spare prop) ; 1 ¼ stainless steel shaft. Two 50 gallon, 5052 aluminum fuel tanks. 1800 hrs. Cruise at 16 knots 2600 rpm; 22 knots WOT, 3500 rpm. Regular annual service of engine. Always reliable.
The Bimini 24 was originally designed by Topaz as a small offshore fishing boat. They were designed to carry a short tuna tower and the heavy hand laid hull was designed to balance that potential weight. Mr. Mike was never fitted with a tower or regularly fished (built and used as a recreational boat), but with that extra heft in the hull and the strong six cylinder Volvo swinging that big four bladed prop, Mr. Mike will go through anything with the chines throwing down any spray. Mike is a dry strong boat, heavily built. We have run offshore with no concerns.
Apparently built for and owned by a marina operator in the Chesapeake Bay and later by a very conscientious engineer, Mike has always had the best of care and equipment. That tradition has been continued and the boat remains in very good condition.
