Description
Arthur Spurling built many rowboats to his wonderful design on Little Cranberry Island, off Mount Desert, on the coast of Maine. They were favoured by the residents of Northeast Harbor and other places in the area. I developed plans from my measurement of the Spurling rowboat in the collection of Mystic Seaport Museum, for use in my Fundamentals of Boatbuilding class at the WoodenBoat School. I also have written a book in which I show the plans and describe building these fine rowboats., INTRODUCTION TO WOODEN BOAT BUILDING, ALWAYS MORE TO LEARN, https://www.amazon.com/dp/098565015X?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860
Planked with cedar on a cedar keel and skeg, with bent oak ribs, these boats have a wide oak shoe below the keel that make them excellent for landing on beaches and ramps such as are found along the Maine coast. This boat was started in class and I finished it for my own use.Photos
