Owner’s Description
THE SLOOP-RIGGED BRIDGES POINT 24was designed by
a legend in the boatbuilding world: Joel White of Brooklin,
Maine. For many years, it was built by another legend, Wade
Dow, who, with his son Forrest, produced more than 80 of the
popular daysailers.
Now the legend carries on in the hands of Bill Wright,
who built hull No. 83, a daysailer version in 2018. He currently has a commissioned cuddy cabin version, #84, ready for launch this spring. He is ready for further commissions.
Wright, who has been building boats for nearly 30
years, has long been part of the BP24’s devoted following.
Its shapely, traditional lines and easy, stable, yet spirited
sailing are irresistible—ideal for single-handed or family
overnights or friendly racing in the annual BP24 regatta.
The BP24 excels in a breeze and keeps boaters dry up
to 15 knots. With a full keel, graceful sheerline, and bow
with hollow waterlines, the BP24 combines beauty with
responsiveness and ease of handling. The large cockpit and
3/4 fractional sloop rig make it comfortable and easy to sail.
Wright purchased the BP24 molds from Dow and
established the Bridges Point Boat Company. He retains the
BP24’s classic feel while employing modern materials, techniques,
and equipment, like quiet, non-polluting electric
power—all aimed at simplifying the build process, reducing
costs and, ultimately, making the model accessible to
more boaters.
The key? Just hoist the sail and take off!Photos
