Owner’s Description
Our club is about all things to do with traditional small boats – their construction, maintenance, restoration and of course enjoying them on water and other forms of public display.
We are located in Canberra – Australia’s national capital – and you will find us regularly on Lake Burley Griffin and occasionally elsewhere.
Sailing days are held regularly throughout the year, and there are also special events on the annual calendar.
Generally it is not possible for a private party to obtain permission to operate a power boat (other than electrically powered) on Lake Burley Griffin. However, there is a special permit for boats that add “aesthetic interest” to the lake, and our boats certainly do that.
Members boats range from 100 years old, to only a few years old, and include petrol powered Putt-putts, rowing, sailing, steam powered and electric powered boats.
Our members concentrate on small boats because we have a relatively small lake that cab be shallow in places, and two large bridges can limit mast heights.Photos
