Description
The Rozinante “canoe yawl” is a classic double-ended beauty designed by L. Francis Herreshoff. She is one of the prettiest designs afloat. The sleek boat has a large cockpit that can comfortably accommodate six on a daysail. The simply designed cabin has a double berth, mahogany cabinets, and stowage space for battery, ground tackle and sails.
“PETREL” was built in 1973 in Portland, Oregon, by Hank Chamberlain as a faithful reproduction of L.F. Herreshoff’s famous Rozinante design. Her mahogany on oak hull is in excellent condition. She has fourteen new laminated oak ribs amidships, and she was fully refastened with silicon bronze below the waterline in 2024. Toerails, trim and spars are finished bright. The cabin and cockpit soles, and cockpit slatted seating are teak. Petrel retains her original 10-foot sweep oar and cedar bucket, as specified by Herreshoff. A deep cycle battery, newly purchased in 2023, powers the bilge pump, running lights and LED cabin light. A 7-watt solar panel easily keeps the battery at full charge. A Torqeedo Travel 1003 electric motor clamps to a removable side-mounted bracket and easily propels the sleek hull. Petrel has been professionally and carefully maintained by her two most recent stewards. She has wintered inside, away from the elements on dirt flooring.
The Rozinante sails easily and beautifully under a myriad of conditions; truly a joy to sail.Additional details and a complete inventory are available on request.
