Description
Bright Star is looking for a new a new owner with a passion for wooden boats and a desire to own a classic Herreshoff yacht. True to L. Francis’ original H-28 design, Bright Star was built by Gallart Shipyard in Barcelona, Spain in 1960. She is constructed of African mahogany on acacia frames and keel timbers, silicon bronze fastenings, and teak decks. Owned by a long time boatbuilder and his wife for the past 20 years, Bright Star has received TLC including replacement of the starboard after cabin end, new canvas on the coach roof, and new mahogany drip moldings. The upper 6′ of the main mast was spliced with new spruce and re-rigged with owner-made custom hardware to match the original Herreshoff design. All work was done by the owner and his son. A new Beta Marine 16 HP engine was installed in 2018. The engine has very few hours of sea time and is still like new.
NOTE: Page 38 of Sensible Cruising Designs by L. Francis Herreshoff features a photo of Bright Star around the time she was built.
