Description
MOUSE is a stable, seaworthy gunter yawl whose design was based on late-1800’s British beach boats, professionally built in 2024 by the owner, Marty Loken, and covered extensively in Small Craft Advisor magazine. The boat’s length on deck is 14’, but she’s 22’ overall including the bowsprit and boomkin. (The bowsprit can pivot up into the boat, if needed, and the boomkin is easily removed for trailering.) Planking is 9mm Okoume marine plywood, glued-lap construction so she never needs to soak up when launched. The boat sails beautifully, with new, traditional sails by legendary Schattauer Sails in Seattle. All deck hardware is vintage bronze, including a side-mounted rolled on the bowsprit that hosts a new Rocna Vulcan anchor, making deployment and retrieval easy. Camp cruising is easy with MOUSE, since with a 6’ 6” maximum beam there’s a lot of room on either side of the centerboard trunk for two sleeping pads and bags. Included is a boom cover that was used during 2024 cruises in the Salish Sea. Also included are two 9’ 6” spruce oars that break down for storage with carbon-fiber ferrules. There is room for some gear, tools and mis. gear in a stern lazarette; under the foredeck, the anchor chain and rode are stored in a bucket, and there’s also room for a few fenders and misc. Auxiliary power comes from a new 2.5hp Suzuki four-stroke outboard, mounted on a removable classic-bronze bracket. This much-loved and admired craft is being sold only because the owner is in the midst of building another small cruising boat and could like to dedicate the funds to completion of the new project. MOUSE comes with a custom-fit EZLoader galvanized trailer (padded side guides and center track for easy loading), with new tires, bearings…ready to go anywhere. More photos are available on request.
