Description
RAVEN, designed by John Alden in 1930 and built in 1933 at Todd Shipyards for the then-president of the company, is a 30-foot motor cruiser, professional restored in 2023 by Marty Loken of Port Townsend, WA. When built, the hull was planked with full-length Port Orford cedar planks, 1-1/8” thick, with steambent oak frames. RAVEN has been repowered with a fuel-efficient 30hp Yanmar diesel, which has less than 400 hours and allows the boat to cruise comfortably at 6 knots. The recent restoration included a new cabin interior—8.5’ galley counter with clear vertical-grain fir top; new plumbing and wiring throughout, new tanks, new marine head, double berth to replace the older V-berths, new dinette table in pilothouse with varnished CVG fir top match the lower-cabin galley counter; new vintage-design light fixtures, restored stern cockpit with new hardtop, full winter boat cover, new teak and mahogany bow pulpit with roller and Rocna Vulcan anchor, and efficient Wallas diesel heater with registers throughout the cabin and pilothouse. RAVEN’s cabin and pilothouse sides are solid varnished teak. The boat is solid, seaworthy, fuel efficient and classic in design. She was originally a motorsailer and we have the mast and sails last used—which will be made available to the boat’s buyer, if wanted. RAVEN has been a much-loved and admired classic, and we are letting her go only because we’re in the midst of building a new and trailerable cabin cruiser that’ll be easier to manage as we get deeper into our 80’s. RAVEN will be available to her new custodian as of July 1, 2025, following a haulout, marine survey and one last Salish Sea cruise by her current owners.
