Description
International 500 Sloop, 32′, designed by Robert Henry, built by DeDood in Bremen Germany in 1959.
Hull: African mahogany on steam bent white oak, extensively sistered during professional refit in 1992. New white oak wood keel and floor timbers in 1992, with new bronze ballast keel bolts. All bronze fastened and in excellent condition. Keel is iron. Deck 1/4″ marine plywood and 3/4″ laid teak, over white oak and European larch beams. Teak deck.
Rigging: mast in great shape, always stored inside. Stainless steel standing rigging replaced in 1992, new boom in 1994, updated deck hardware.
Sails: New main with 2 reefs and 135% Genoa in 2023 by Vermont Sailing Partners, new sail covers for both in 2023. Also includes older main, 150% Genoa, working jib, small storm jib and symmetrical spinnaker with spruce pole.
Cabin Trunk: African mahogany sides canvas-covered spruce top on laminated larch beams. Cabin top and sides restored with Dynal cloth in 2009. Cockpit coaming striped and refinished in 2009.
Accommodations: sleeps four – forward Vee berth and 2 settee berths in main saloon. Two burner Origo gimballing alcohol stove, stainless steel lined icebox, stainless steel sink with brass hand pump. 12 volt electric lights in both cabins and head, gimballing oil lamps and tiny tot stove with custom tiled hearth in main saloon. Installed bronze open/close portholes with screens. custom willow branch stained glass window in door to forward cabin.
Equipment: 22lb Bruce anchor, 30′ 5/16″ galvanized chain with 150′ rode. 13lb Danforth anchor, 15lb Northill anchor. Fenders, dock lines, sheets, 2 electric and manual bilge pumps, lifeline man-overboard recovery system.
Electronics: VHF radio, compass, chart plotter
Tankage: Diesel fuel – 18 gallons in polyethylene tank, fresh water – 30 gallons in four stainless steel tanks (aft tanks leak) so usable capacity is currently 20 gallons.
Drive train: Volvo Penta MD7A 13 hp two cylinder diesel c. 1980 fresh water cooled. 1″ bronze propeller shaft, bronze 2 blade propeller, stainless steel water lift muffler.
Yearly varnish and updates as necessary. She winters in an enclosed boat shed in Stonington, ME
