Description
Cockerwitter, an L. F. Herreshoff design H-28, was built by my grandfather John Baker @ 1960, one of seven boats he built in the 1950s and 60’s. As a boy, I learned to sail with him in RI, and MA, and unusually he held onto her for 7 seasons until 1967. Between 1967 and 1998 she had two owners, the last in CT, who kept her in similar condition. After my grandfather passed, I was able to locate her in CT and after having her keelboats removed and refastened, I had her trucked to MI. After mostly cosmetic updates, we spent a number of years sailing her on Lake Huron
In the summer of 2002, we cruised her @ 300 miles in N Lake Huron and N Lake Michigan (picture included) before an unexpected illness interfered with further use and she was put into storage. She was stored in a dirt floor barn from 2003 to 2018, always hoping I would be able get her back in the water, and in 2018 moved her outside (since shrink-wrapped) but as years have gone by I would love to find her a new owner that would continue to provide the care she deserves. The listed price is negotiable if she goes to a caring owner.Photos
