Owner’s Description
Penobscot 14 ST. Jacques, designed by Arch Davis. We built ST. Jacques over 4 years while we restored other small craft. We anted a small boat to row on light wind days, and when the wind is right, catch a ride home on a run.
She has okoume plywood, white pine and cypress. Fastened with marine grade stainless, silicon bronze and thickened epoxy. The hull is Pettit Sea Foam Green and her interior is Rust-Oleum Topside Oyster White. The bright finish is TotalBoat Gleam Satin varnish.
We sewed her tanbark sprit sail from a SailRite kit and set it on cypress spars. She’s a centerboarder with a mahogany rudder. One change we made was her slatted cypress seats vs plywood, to increase ventilation and ease maintenance. She’s sailed the NW Florida Gulf Coast and now pokes her nose into the historic waters of the lower James River around Smithfield, VA, the tribal lands of the Warraskoyack.Photos
