ANJA is a gaff rigged pocket pilot cutter designed by Roger Long in 1976 and launched in 2014 on Saltspring Island, BC. The hull was built by David Betts of mahogany on oak with bronze fastenings. The cabin, rig and interior was built by Arnt Arntzen in 2020. Mast is hollow birds mouth contruction of sitka spruce with spruce gaff and fir boom and bowsprit. Most of the hardware is salvaged bronze with wood and bronze blocks. Much of the interior and cockpit woods are salvaged from church pews, docks, houses and furniture.
ANJA is the cover girl on Wooden Boat Magazine for Jan/Feb 2023 with a fabulous article by Larry Cheek and photos by Dale Simonson and co-owner Valerie Arntzen. Off Center Harbour filmed a feature video when we were at Port Townsend Festival 2023 and we took home the 2023 Victoria Classic “Best Tabloid Cruiser” award.
ANJA has been on many sailing trips, to name a few…Barkley Sound, Broughton Archipeligo, Desolation Sound, San Juan Islands and Southern Gulf Islands in the Georgia Strait. 2023 we attended three festivals including Victoria Classic Boat, Deer Island Rendezvous and Port Townsend Wooden
Boat Festival for the second time. We participated in two races.
She placed 4th in the Vancouver Maritime Heritage Classic 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Her regular crew for the race are two teenage boys.

Exceptional composition in some of your photographs of your beautiful boat. Crossing the bow of the bulk carrier gave me pause only to move to Anja in the fog. Wow.
