Owner’s Description
The Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holy Point Nature Park is a maritime museum and park on the lower Chesapeake Bay. The Museum includes an active Boat Shop program, open to visitors, with volunteers building Chesapeake deadrise boats and maintaining the museum’s boats on exhibit.
Since 2003 the museum has held an annual Family Boat Building Week. At this event families, usually with two or three generations participating, build a traditional flat bottom skiff in five days. Participants start on Monday morning and boats are finished, with a name painted on the transom, and in the water by Friday afternoon.
The museum is focused on the lower Chesapeake Bay, the traditional boatbuilding of the area, and other history of the Middle Peninsula of Virginia. The extensive park has nature trails and gardens, as well as a Pierwalk with a living shoreline and access to the Museum’s log hulled buy boat, the F.D. Crockett. The FD Crockett travels the Chesapeake Bay during the summer visiting the ports it once visited as a working buyboat. Each month during the summer’ Market Days weekends, our round stern deadrise Jennie May does cruises for the museum members. Each Market Day weekend there is a Groovin’ Concert with live entertainment. There are also several festivals held during the year.Photos
