Island Art

My name is Richard Shaffett, a tropical and marine artist in Sarasota, Florida, and “Island Art” is my business name. My first artistic expressions were as a child in Aruba, fascinated by the color and atmosphere of living on a tropical island. I was always doing some form of art: drawing, painting, working with clay. Today I still have that same passion which I continue to express in my work. I do the most compelling art I can taking the time required to carefully plan each piece, always open to the unexpected. Formally educated but self-taught, I continuously learn. I have been actively painting for almost 50 years. My work is authentic and resonates with people. The bottom line is: my whole life is about doing art, and expressing my love of islands and boats is my lifelong passion. I want to share it with the world.
