Owner’s Description
Welcome boaters, tiny house dwellers, and campers alike. We carry your provisions for cruising, off grid living, and maintenance. Longship Marine, the last standing marine consignment store in Washington State is situated on the waterfront in the downtown, Norwegian district of Poulsbo. The eclectic store is easily accessible by boat, just a short walk from the docks at Port of Poulsbo. Our mission is to keep boating clean by preventing improper disposal of marine items while provide consultation and education. We aim to keep boating affordable by offering marine accessories at a fraction of the new cost while simultaneously offering boaters an avenue to recoup some of the financial investment associated with keeping a vessel current and in good working order. Boaters can earn money on their gently used items to use in store or remove as cash. We believe in face-to-face interactions and quality customer service while helping customers to find their right product or solution for their boat project of the hour.
The store is a community staple and social hub. Boaters swap advice, resources, and stories. We have a base of 2,000+ consignors and roughly 25% of our customer base we see on a weekly basis. Longship Marine boasts a DIY table (think “bulk section”) for boaters to take only what they need in terms of quantity of material for plumbing and electrical updates on their vessel. This allows for interaction and teaching as well as preventing the boater from being left with excess materials to be disposed of or needlessly stored aboard the vessel AND saves the boater money. Longship offers a tool library where customers can rent more expensive tools for a daily rate rather than absorb the cost of purchasing the tool for one-time application.
The store supports the used AND new aspects of the boating industry. Sales benefit the boater’s personal economics by allowing for money to be made on otherwise throwaway or donated items that are no longer of use to that individual. Non-consignors save money by purchasing gently used items at significantly discounted prices. Conversely, approximately 60% of the stores sales are received from new item/special orders supporting the overall marine industry and local companies such as Gill, Fisheries Supply, Seattle Marine, West Marine, and west coast artisans.
