Owner’s Description
We are an informal rendezvous of small boats at Montague Harbour on Galiano Island, one of the Canadian gulf islands. No restrictions as to size or type of boat, and attendees are responsible for their own boats and safety. Our definition of “small” is elastic, most boats attending are 15 to 25 feet, but have ranged from 12 to 34 feet. A sample is shown below (chosen mostly because these were the photos at hand.)
This event is entirely attendee driven. There are no organized activities, we gather to camp, talk, share food and drink, and sail together. Taking the shuttle to the local pub for Saturday night’s dinner has become a tradition. Some nights we sit around the campfire, talking some more.
Normally there is no registration for the rendezvous, but this year we must provide the park’s management with everyone’s contact information in case of Covid. Therefore I ask that you contact me, Jamie Orr, by email or phone using the contact information on the right.
The rendezvous will be a socially-distanced affair. Expect to stay in your dinghy when visiting other boats and maintain the six foot distance on the dock. Bring your mask.
Sorry for all the negative stuff. The good news is, that through exhaustive research, we have determined that chatting over coffee, beer or whatever, is still enjoyable at six feet.
The pub is open, operating within public health restrictions/guidelines. It will be up to each individual (as always) whether they go there or not.
Galiano Island is accessible by ferry if you prefer to trailer your boat. Space at the single dock is first come, first served. Mooring buoys are available and at this time of year there are generally lots of openings. Smaller boats often anchor closer in to shore. Campsites are available, reservations are recommended. For more information on the park, and its rates, see https://bcparks.ca/explore/parkpgs/montague/
Note the website shown under contacts, on the right, has a link to our other rendezvous at Sucia Island, in the US San Juan islands.
For updates, including cancellation, watch the Montague rendezvous website. If you have any question or concerns please call or email me, I’m always happy to chat. See you on the water!
