The Museum of the World Ocean is a complex museum that preserves and promotes maritime cultural and historical heritage. Today there are 6 unique vessels at the museum embankment: the research vessel Vityaz, the submarine B-413, the research vessel Kosmonavt Viktor Patsayev, the medium fishing trawler SRT-129 and the lightship Irbenskiy are moored at the museum quay in Kaliningrad and the icebreaker Krassin is anchored in Saint Petersburg.
The museum onshore complex comprises exhibition halls and historical buildings, monuments of architecture, such as the Koenig Gate and the Friedrichsburg Gate, the Maritime Exhibition Centre in Svetlogorsk, a lighthouse in Zalivino Settlement, open air exhibitions and a landscape park, etc.The museum Ship’s Revival Historical and Cultural Centre features a collection of traditional boats of different countries such as a kurenas – a fishing boat of the Curonians, a Chukchi baidara, an Irish coracle, a North-American canoe and kayaks, an Astrakhan budara boat, dugouts of the Moscow region and many others.
Annually the museum holds a maritime festival Water Assembly, aimed at preservation, study and promotion of maritime heritage. This day the museum embankment is turned into the crossroads of countries and epochs with sports competitions and fairs, concerts and streetfood. The main event is a water show featuring flyboards, a rowing regatta and a parade of traditional boats guided and steered by rowers wearing folk costumes.
The museum arranged its own marina at the museum embankment welcoming yachts from all over the world.
