Owner’s Description
The Vogalonga (Italian for: “Long Row”) is 30km “race” starting at the famous Piazza San Marco and than going through the Lagoon and back into the city of Venice, Italy. But you are totally wrong, if you expect a really competitive rowing race. It is more a big gathering of totally different, human powered boats like canoes, rowingboats and everything that more or less floats. Normally 6000 people and 1650 boats from all over the world took the opportunity to have fun together. You can take your own boat or borough one there. Also a lot of traditional Venetian rowing boats take part.
The Vogalonga was found as an protest against all motorized craft destroying the city.
Please note that you may not attend with a freshly varnished boat. Traffic jams are often happening at corners or in the narrow canals and sadly a lot of people do not know how to handle a boat.Photos
