Description
Abi is a traditionally built plank on frame, one of a kind motor sailer. As good as the year she was first launched. We built Abi in 2015 of the finest materials. All bronze fastened. Planking is full length Clear vertical grain Atlantic white cedar. her backbone is vertical grain white oak. Due to the grain and good construction, she stays tight through the winter when hauled out, and during the sailing season her bilges are dry.
She runs a Sabb 10G with a keel cooler and dry exhaust. Eliminating the salt water intake, and making maintenance easy and low cost. I purchased the engine new, still in the crate with its tool box and everything needed, it had been stored indoors and has been a blessing of an engine. the Sabb 10G where built to work 8 hours a day, everyday,
Abi is cat rigged, with a single halyard, and headboard sail. Her sail is modest in size but with a steady wind she is a good sailer in any direction other then to windward. When heading into the wind I will typically run the engine just above idle allowing a sharp point of sail. she is a powerful motor sailer, keeps her bow up and steady speed in a strong steep chop. The image of Abi sailing show below was taken by Benjamin Mendlowitz. And was taken before I built the pilot house. She still uses the same sail and configuration.
A 100 watt solar panel on the pilot house roof keeps the batteries charged when cruising. Powering lights, chargers, cabin fans and even a small Engel fridge. The electrical, and mechanical systems are of the same high quality as the boats construction.
Her layout includes a large aft deck, Foot well behind the pilot house. Lots of space for sitting. A swim platform with under mount drop ladder. All custom bronze pipe and rails. and a tiller auto pilot that was a real game changer when on longer trips or sailing by oneself.
Below the aft deck are 2 large quarter berths that run the length. Raised deck forward with sitting head room. SS water tank for dishes. Hatch on engine house lets in lots of fresh air. Big companionway hatch. Small fridge forward and organized storage for tools, food. And extras. Custom fuel tanks. The interior is small but cozy and inviting.
Lots to say about her. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. I’m a professional boat builder who built this for myself and my dad. we use the boat often to get to our favorite local islands, and always make an annual fall sailing trip, these have ranged from Mystic Connecticut to Casco Bay Maine. She is safe, very dependable, and easy to maintain. We are in the process of getting a larger boat, after building her my family grew to 5 humans and a small dog. Im hoping to do more cruising with the family. .
