Description
Lydia is a 2014 Craigslist find. She had been languishing on the hard for many years and in need of complete restoration. Unknown builder, design, or build date. She was clearly hurting, but I was captivated by the sweep of her sheer, and at 21ft (without the bow sprit) she would just fit in my shop. She is 24’8″ LOA (with bowsprit). Launched in May 2020 after a 6 year weekend and after work restoration. All planking replaced with ¾ inch quarter sawn Western Red cedar strips, with 10oz glass epoxy outside and penetrating epoxy and four coats of Bilgekote inside. Entire center line replaced with white oak (stem, timber keel, sternpost). New frames aft of mid-ship and all floors replaced in white oak, fastened to a new lead keel with 1/2 inch bronze bolts. New transom in African mahogany and new deck in 3/8 inch black locust over ½ inch marine plywood. The rig was missing, so I designed and built a gaff cutter rig with self-tending stays’l and roller furling yankee, Sitka spruce mast and spars, dyneema synthetic standing rigging. New sails by Stuart Hopkins at Dabbler Sails. 2kW Torqeedo pod drive installed over the 2020-2021 winter, with 200 Ah/24V LiFePO4 battery bank (4 100 Ah batteries), 170W solar panel and Victron controller. To allow trailer sailing, the keel stepped mast was converted to a tabernacle over the 2021-2022 winter and anew custom triad trailer purchased. Freshly painted bottom in green Hydrocote. Currently at Bill’s Boat Storage in Sedgwick, Maine. I would love to see this boat in the water, so offers are welcome.
