Description
1972- 23’ Sea Sprite Daysailer hull #338,
a true classic Carl Alberg designed daysailerSolid fiberglass hull with original deluxe varnished Teak trim upgrade; coamings, toe rails, louver/panel cabin doors, companionway sliding hatch rails, miscellaneous small trim and cockpit seats.
I purchased Sailaway in the spring of 2018. At first sight, she looked a bit worse for the wear, but I could imagine what she could be once cleaned up and had some reconfiguring and updating of various systems.
Once transported to my home I got her “cleaned up”, bottom painted and ready to head back out to sea.
Not long after our maiden voyage I got to work on my list of modifications and upgrades that I felt would make her more comfortable and better organized for single handed sailing.
Here’s a rundown of the upgrades and improvements made…
Mounted main halyard winch on cabin top, setup 2-line mainsail Jiffy reefing and boom downhaul and lead all lines through deck organizers back to the cockpit to White Oak horned cleats on cabin bulkhead. Added 3 strand Dacron Lazy Jack lines on the mainsail.
Replaced all standing rigging (by New England Yacht Rigging) as well as main and genoa sheets & halyards. Added new Quantum Sails 120% Genoa and Scheafer Snap-furl furler with new Genoa sheet lead tracks and blocks. Installed new Atwood Sahara S750 bilge pump with Gel battery and 50w Solar panel/battery charge controller.
Installed new Harken 22mm Small Boat Mainsail Traveler 3:1 purchase with German style double-ended main sheet arrangement with lines lead to cam cleats at aft end of cockpit.
Built Honduras Mahogany sliding hatch cover, Black Locust grab rails and tiller. Reconfigured cabin interior and added custom built-in Cherry storage cabinet.
Price includes launching fee at the marina in Warwick, RI.
Includes: set of 5 boat stands, anchor with 20 feet of chain and 110 feet of nylon line, 2 interior custom seat cushions, assorted hardware (winch handles, shackles, blocks etc.), dock lines, and 2 fenders.
Sails; mainsail with Jiffy Reefing, Lazy Jacks and custom sail cover. 120% Genoa on Schaefer roller furler.Sailaway is a great boat and lots of fun to sail! My reason for selling is I’ve gotten a bigger boat.
