PATIENCE of the HUON is now for sale.
PATIENCE is a beautiful example of the famous VERTUE class designed by Laurent Giles, one of the most capable and well-loved small cruising yachts ever designed. Her sail number is V153, one of about 200 VERTUES that have been built around the world, renowned for their seaworthiness and spirited but comfortable sailing pedigree. VERTUES, in the 90 or so years since the first one was built, have successfully completed countless ambitious voyages including circumnavigations of Tasmania, the UK, and round the world. It’s an impressive record for a boat of relatively modest size.
PATIENCE was launched in 2009 and sailed across Bass Strait from where she was built in Victoria, Australia, to her now home in southern Tasmania. She has cruised and explored southern Tasmanian waters since her arrival in 2010. She was set up to be sailed as a single hander with ease but can also happily fit three or four for day sails or shorter cruises. She was shown at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart in 2011, 2013 and 2015, generating great interest and admiration.
PATIENCE is extremely well presented, has been carefully maintained and is in regular use. The main sail and furling headsail are in good condition, and she has new sail covers and a dodger which provides excellent protection while underway . The hull is antifouled annually, most recently completed in March 2026 when the topsides were also painted. The 15HP Yanmar in-board diesel engine has done approximately 650 hours and is in good condition, and there is an extensive list of electronics to make life on PATIENCE practical and easy.
The cabin layout is open, generous and light-filled, finished throughout to a high standard, featuring jarrah and spotted gum. There is standing headroom provided for the whole length of the cabin, adding to the comfort and sense of space. The main cabin configuration has a galley at the foot of the companionway to port (perfect for easy access to put the kettle on when underway!), navigation station opposite, and two setees (one converts into a short single berth) and a folding table in the saloon area. The head is contained by a two-way door that leads through to the V-berth providing privacy and comfort for two people.
PATIENCE has been a much-loved member of the family, but it is now time to pass on the joy of sailing her to a new custodian.
