ESQUIRO IV – 34′ Enderlein Sloop (1967)

Havsornen II, “Sea Eagle II” 1967 Edge glued mahogany on steam bent oak. Original owner cruised her from the Baltic to the South of France. Subsequently she was purchased by a young French merchant marine and with his girlfriend sailed it transatlantic to Brazil, up the Amazon, through the Caribbean and up to Newport. They raced it there in the first Wooden Boat Race and she won her class. She was sold there to the third owner. He sailed her up to Canada, around Lake Champlain, to Bermuda and then throughout the Caribbean, single handed. Afterwards he took her to a mountaintop in Peterborough, NH and did an extensive restoration in 1993. I bought her in 1994, cruised her extensively raising two boys aboard, from her home port of Coecles Harbor, Shelter Island, NY. Continuous maintenance and upgrades including new garboard planking, sails, electronics, wiring, new engine and more. I have raced her quite a bit and she has collected her share of silver – she likes a breeze and points like a demon. Recent survey available.

Construction:
African Mahogany resorcinol glued seam carvel planking w copper rivet and bronze screw fastenings to steam bent white oak frames. Mahogany trunk cabin and trim. Dynel over plywood decks and fiberglass over plywood house top. Self-bailing cockpit with fiberglass well. Tiller steering to keel hung rudder (ATOMS self-steering vane). 2.3 tons outside iron ballast. White topsides with green cove and boot top, bright trim.
