Description
Heavily built 3 masted full rigged ship originally built for sail cargo in the Arctic in 1935. Designed by Ole Andreasson and built by Kneass Boatworks she is 57′ on deck and 78′ LOA with a 15′ beam and draws 6’6″. Quarter sawn edge grain fir on oak frames every 12″ with a second hull from waterline down of ironbark and then copper clad.
North Star has had just three owners in her life and was originally used for sail cargo in the fur trade in the High Arctic. She was tasked by the Canadian government to defend Arctic sovereignty during the Cold War and was again used by them to re-survey the B.C./Alaska border. She has been used for charters, sail-training, exploration among other things.Photos
