12' Friedel Solo Canoe (2022) - OTTER

The “Otter” is a 11’9″ canoe built by Newfound Woodworks, inc. in the spring of 2022. She is a Cedar Strip cove & bead construction of Western Red Cedar, Alaskan Yellow Cedar, and Northern White Cedar, with fiberglass inside and out. Commissioned by a customer who had us build it so he can go fishing solo. Like an Otter in the water, this canoe is meant to be a playboat. This is a lightweight (35 lbs), easily portaged solo canoe that can be paddled with a traditional canoe paddle or with a kayak paddle.

A larger paddler will find that it has plenty of capacity. One could even take their Retriever or a small child and still feel very comfortable. We added a keel to improve tracking with lighter loads.
