16' Herreshoff Coquina Cat Ketch (2025) - FLIRT

I built the Coquina over a two-year period in a dirt-floor tobacco barn working when the weather allowed. The shop, having no power, limited tool selection but the challenge added to the satisfaction as I was not building for profit or on a schedule. I had no prior boat-building experience, but I spent several years reading books and periodicals, watching videos, and practicing with hand tools re-learning woodworking skills I first learned 40+ years past. She launched in June 2025. Sailing her brings a sense of satisfaction and joy that’s hard to match. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to add another interpretation of a fine N.G. Herreshoff design and thankful to the builders, designers, historians and curators who resurrected the Coquina and shared their knowledge.
