FEE-Fi is a modified “Penny Fee” design by Iain Oughtred. Glued marine plywood with a white oak keel and stem. Transom and seats are Spanish cedar. We built her to be used as a tender to our Friendship sloop and wanted her to be self contained. Iain had designed a fairly open boat. We added bulkheads and lockers fore and aft so that she could carry all her safety gear and things like dedicated compass, anchors, and floatation on board. We changed the rig to a sprit rig so that we can sail right up to our sloop, haul on a brailing line and the sail collapses right up against the mast, making it easy to make fast to the sloop without boom or sail trying to knock one over. FEE-FI is fast under sail and one person can row the boat with four passengers quite easily.
If anyone is interested in the building process, we chronicled the process on a blog. You can go to: dovetails.wordpress.com and click on “Penny Fee” in the categories section. This will collect all the blog posts for you in one place.Already a member? Log in herePhotos
