Owner’s Description
GRANNY is our family truck to shuttle us around the Salish Sea and San Juan Islands. We’d long dreamed of the combination of classic Glasply with a modern motor, and when the need and opportunity arose, we sold a Boston Whaler to buy her and haven’t looked back. We love GRANNY so much, and for so many reasons.
GRANNY is named after the elder matriarch whale of the Southern Resident Orcas (aka J2), reported to have lived past 100 years old to lead her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. We love respectfully visiting with the orcas, both Biggs and Residents, as well as the humpbacks, minkes, and porpoises who share our waters. In our few short years together, GRANNY has escorted us on over 60 whale visits all over the Salish Sea.
Beyond whale watching, GRANNY has proved herself across a wide range of activities, like crabbing, salmon fishing, grocery runs, significant lumber transport, and even carrying a sawmill! Full sheets of plywood can slide right in and lay flat on the sole.
GRANNY is the perfect kind of workboat that is nice enough to love and tough enough to work with.
