18' Dunbar Nomansland Boat (1978) - AMY

The AMY is a 18.5′ Nomans Land Boat, all traditional built, white cedar on oak, mahogany and teak trimmed, Sitka Spruce masts, black Locust tiller, bronze and copper fastened. Commissioned at The Apprenticeshop in 1978 when located in Bath, Maine by the Merck Family of Mattapoisett, Mass (Merck Pharmaceuticals) . Sails are tan bark Dacron. Boat was designed by Spaulding Dunbar with three mast steps for sail versatility. Color is Kirbys Colonial Yellow. This is my first traditional Boat restoration, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it ! Side note, she was published in Sea History Magazine Issue #51 Autumn 1989 pg 39, in an article referencing Yvon le Corre’s Sketchbook of Marine Art when he sketched her while she was in maintenance at The Apprenticeshop in Bath, Maine in 1985. I have taken time to install belaying racks and pins and, built and installed traditional stropped wooden blocks and rigging for a more period look of an earlier working boat of her class. Sadly I have yet to get her under full sail due to Covid restrictions. I have used that time for the restoration.
