Owner’s Description
PILAR was a dream we built for a home, a holistic way of life, and a return to the Solomon Islands where Bill Pool fought during WWII. She was named for the gypsy woman in Hemingway’s book, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS…Sadly, she is now about to be listed for sale.
Last year, after posting examples of PILAR being a mixture of sturdy substance and blushing romance, I added this postscript:
“Aging brings Changes That Are Not Choices, but sometimes the temptation is to attempt to control them in advance. I had begun to accept the life changes that said it was time to sell PILAR…but this wonderful immersion in OCH’s virtual boat show has allowed me to feel young enough to sail PILAR back into a community of boat lovers, the builders and sailors such as we loved when Bill and I built her. Then, I imagined, when the inevitable changes that are not choices become realities, the opportunities to transfer PILAR into other like-minded hands would be enhanced…”
Sigh…if only ALL our dreams could be fulfilled as richly as the fifty-one years I have had with PILAR. My dream now for her future is that she will continue to enrich a new generation of dreamers.
The listing of my boat for sale is completed. The process has been slow. Listing left-brain boat data triggers right-brain memories and emotions. Also, to choose only 12 photos where there is such a bounty of special details was almost impossible. Agonizing. Fortunately, there is a bounty of photos of PILAR on my website (with more to come!). They can be found in the category PILAR on the Home page banner.
