46′ Kettenburg Pacific Cruising Class Sloop (1946) – RICOCHET

I had seen her at the dock in Vancouver and Brent was on his back with binoculars checking her rigging. She was so pretty I had to disturb his concentration and inquire about her origins. Saw her again at the PT Wooden Boat Festival and she’s still captivating. We share the same birth year but she’s had a lot more work done.

13′ Peapod Tender (2016) – WE’RE HERE

Now that’s a barn find if ever there was one and the absolute perfect name to boot. Congratulations. No need to play the lottery. You won.

70′ Eldridge-McInnes US Army T-Boat (1954) – ENDEAVOR

Very nice digs for your research clients. The wife of Walter McInnis was our Marine Insurance broker in Hingham, MA decades ago and she had numerous photographs and half models in her office of Walter’s designs. It always impressed me how well suited for the sea his vessels looked. Glad to see Endeavor out of the prisoner transport business and doing important research instead as well as a happy home.

36′ Kirby Spirit of Tradition Yawl (2005) – 40 WINKS

A beauty but you know that. I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for her when we’re back east this summer. Used to keep a boat on the Back River and race on Tuesdays with the South Shore Yacht Club. I’m glad I didn’t have 40 Winks as competition.

32′ Double-Ended Ketch (1930) – TIDAL WAVE

I thought “jeer” worked because I figured she’d passed you a number of times on a race course. An unusual looking boat that seems ahead of her time.

26′ Crowninshield Dark Harbor 17 Sloop (2018) – KOTIMANA

She must be turning more than a few heads in New Zealand.

36′ Monk & Atkin Cape George Cutter (1974) – MINNEHAHA

Kirsten, I so enjoyed your presentation today and even though I’v been following you since the start of the GGR, I found it fresh and informative. Whether you like the mantle or not, you have become a hero to many of us. Not because you are the first woman to win, but because of your strength, ability, determination and honesty. I’ll keep this short by ending with KEEP THAT BOAT!

24′ Robinson Ocean Rowing Boat (2021) – MAIWAR

Tom , nice to look at “old” photos of Maiwar after seeing the recent ones in your Newsletter. I’ll commit her grace and beauty to memory and not the reef damage. I’m looking forward to your presentations later this week. FYI, James Hansen wrote a book a few months ago titled Completely Mad about the epic solo rows across the Atlantic by Tom McClean and John Fairfax in 1969. You might enjoy the read. I told Tom about your adventure and he was interested to learn more about the young lad from Australia. We all are. Cheers.
