Schattauer Sails has been serving sailors in the Pacific Northwest since 1959. We produce coastal and offshore sails for traditional and modern vessels with our ultimate offshore series Mainsails featuring hand-sewn rings, hand-sewn bolt ropes and rat tails.
We were both brought up in the business and learned the trade from our father, Franz Schattauer, a Master Sailmaker . He earned his master title in 1940 in Hamburg, Germany after 4 years as an apprentice and 10 years as a journeyman. He then had permission to open and operate his own business and teach others his trade.
Axel and Frank have been active full time in the business since 1970 and 1983, respectively, and have co-managed the loft since 1985 after Franz’s retirement. We continue to work together blending proven handwork and traditional sailmaking methods with modern techniques of sail design and construction to ensure good performance and lasting durability.

Great people Frank and Axel, we have sailed with them and used their sails for years. Very honest and easy to work with on sail matters. Don’t miss their lovely yawl TIOGA which is in the show.
The boats will arrive February 17, 2023
(there’s also plenty to explore on the map year-round)
To get access to the Show, you need a Full Access Pass:
1. If you attended the WCBS in 2021 or 2022, your login will still work 2. If you’re new to the Show, you can get a ticket by clicking “Get Full Access” 3.NOTE: Off Center Harbor members still need a separate WCBS account; this is a different login system
If you want to create or update pages and classifieds
but aren’t ready to buy a ticket, you can start here – but you won’t get access to all the boats and daily presentations.

Kim,
Very kind words, thank you. You’ve always been a pleasure to work with.
